Gerber’s magic appears in her words and her brilliant imagery. Unfortunately, one of them ends up dead, and the suspect list is rather long. In this caper, a local celebrity is throwing a birthday party for a sorority sister, and several out-of-town friends come for a visit. Protagonist Courtney runs a fairy garden and tea shop in a seaside California town, where her fairy, Fiona, helps her solve strange and sometimes deadly crimes around town. This latest installment in her slightly fantastical cozy mystery series shines brightly and shows why she’s been a favorite in the genre.

I’ve read the previous two novels in this series and several of her other ones in the past I enjoy her writing style, character development, and charming settings. My Book ReviewĪ Hint of Mischief is the 3rd book in the Fairy Garden Mysteries written by Daryl Wood Gerber. I’m current in both those series, and there are 12 other latest releases (not yet published, but I have advanced copies) from favorite authors/series that I will read this summer, generally 2 weeks before the publication date so I can support the author with my review and post. And finally, I read Barbara Ross’s latest Maine Clambake Mystery, Muddled Up. I also participated in a blog tour for Daryl Wood Gerber’s new release from the Fairy Garden Mysteries, A Hint of Mischief. I have only 5 more series to go before I am fully caught up on everything I wanted to be current on in 2022, which means I can slow down and/or pick a few new series by the fall.

I will read books 13 thru 15 this coming week, plus the last in-between novella, which will leave me current in yet another series. Books 7 through 12 plus the 3 in-between holiday novellas make up the reviews below. I focused my week on catching up in the Hayley Powell Food and Cocktails Mysteries series… 9 of 11 books were from Lee Hollis’s collection. I also hit the magic number of 100 books on my TBR shelf, which feels amazing to be closing in on a reasonable amount. Back to book news… as of today, I’ve finished a total of 153 out of 208 in my 2022 Goodreads Challenge, which equates to 74% complete and 55 books ahead of schedule. Things are coming along nicely, and I am excited to put everything back together this weekend.

He wants to be walked, which was exactly what I was trying to get away from as a regular thing… I have some retraining to do over the next few weeks. The interesting aspect, he doesn’t seem to like it nor want to acknowledge that’s where he’s supposed to take care of his business. The big news this week is that Baxter’s outdoor dog area has been finished. I was on a mission to finish a series, hence all the reading.

In full disclosure, 3 were novellas, so it’s not as many as it sounds like.
